Clay Camp! (Ages 8–13)

$325.00

Get ready to create and play with clay! Kids will explore slab-building, coiling, pinching, and press molds to make colorful bowls, whimsical creatures, tiles, and more. We’ll also learn simple glazing techniques so every project can go home ready to show off. Every camper gets their own 25 lb. bag of clay, and all tools and firings are included. Projects are fun, creative, and can be built on again and again! Classes are small, capping at 6 students, and fill up fast.

Who Will Have the Most Fun: This camp is perfect for kids who can follow simple directions, work safely with materials, and get along with friends in a shared space. Basic hand skills—like the ability to tie shoes—is a good marker for success and ease with clay.

About the Instructor: Dyan Akkouche is a certified Kansas art teacher (K–12) who currently teaches in Auburn-Washburn schools and serves as an adjunct professor at Washburn University. She is a former full-time art education professor and has trained many art educators across the Midwest. Dyan is opening her home art studio to provide more hands-on art opportunities for Topeka kids and teens.

Dress Policy: In the Art Studio we “dress for the mess and that leads to success.” Kids should come in comfortable, older clothes that you are not worried about getting dirty. We provide aprons, but sometimes they miss the apron. Some materials we use such as acrylic paints may stain clothes.

Food Policy: We have a snack break. Please provide nut-free snacks for your child and a full water bottle.

Dogs on Site: Dogs live on the first floor and will be kenneled in a different part of the house during camp hours. They bark and produce fur and dander. Unfortunately, our studio may not be the best fit for kids with dog allergies.
